As Research Director, I have a role in promoting and coordinating the research activities of the Institute as a whole.

My training is in experimental psychology and my personal research interests lie mainly in the effects of neurological disease upon the control of fast eye movements (saccades). This has been extended to involve studies of the coordination of hand and eye movement in both lab-based and more natural tasks. I've also become involved in projects using structural and functional MR brain imaging to investigate Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases.

I’m currently supervising six PhD students. Previously, I've supervised four doctoral, two masters, and four BMedSc thesis students to completion. These students have come from a variety of disciplines: medicine, psychology, physiotherapy, physics, and radiography.Topics have ranged from eye and hand movement control to brain imaging, neuropsychological testing and clinical assessment.

I live in a house perched on a cliff, in a harbour formed from the crater of an extinct volcano. In the weekends, I can be found (slowly) running or (occasionally) kayaking around it.
