Prof Tim Anderson

BSc(Hons), MBChB, MD, FRACP

Clinical Director

New Zealand Brain Research Institute, Christchurch

Professor

Department of Medicine, University of Otago, Christchurch

I am a Neurologist, with subspecialty expertise in Movement Disorders including Parkinson’s, Huntington’s disease and botulinum toxin therapy.

I undertake two specialty clinics in movement disorders per week and fortnightly botulinum toxin clinics for the CDHB. I teach 5th year University of Otago, Christchurch medical students including hosting students at my outpatient clinics

My research interests and expertise are

  1. establishing biomarkers of cognitive decline to mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia, particularly advanced MRI markers in Parkinson’s disease but also other dementias;
  2. eye movements in PD and other neurological disorders, in collaboration with Dr M MacAskill,
  3. clinical biomarkers of progression in Huntington’s disease, and
  4. speech and swallowing disorders in health and neurological disorders.

I regularly conduct clinical pharmaceutical trials in Parkinson’s and other neurological disorders This has enabled patients not only to have early access to new treatments but also and regular clinical review and oversight. My passions are golf, tennis and sailing and as often as possible I escape to our wee holiday house at Akaroa, a harbour village one hour’s drive from Christchurch
